Saturday 6th October – final reminders

Posted on October 3rd, 2012 by Kate

Friday evening
Some people are meeting up for a meal on Friday evening. The table has been booked for 7pm. For any other info, please contact Debbie by email or phone – the contact details are on the UKHKAN website.

Saturday

Venue: Chinese Community Centre Birmingham 99 Bradford Street Bham

Car parking information and walking directions have been posted already. I should have added that there is also a lift by the staircase down to the markets area.

Doors will open at 10.45am. The event will begin at 11.30am or earlier if everyone is there.

Lunch is £7 per head which will be collected on registration. Please bring exact money as we won’t have any change.

Tea, coffee & biscuits will be available – suggested donation 50p per cup to help us cover the costs. Any surplus to be ‘banked’ for future gatherings.

At our previous gathering in April, we asked former ISS trustee Margaret Bryer to talk about the overseas adoption programme in the 1960s ie a historical overview. For this meeting, we have asked Maria Affinito from NCH Action 4 Children and Kate Roach from Barnardos to explain the practical procedures for obtaining the adoption records from their agencies. We hope you will find this talk useful and interesting, even if you have no personal intention to search for your records.

As I have obtained records from Po Leung Kuk, ISS Hong Kong and from NCH, I am going to talk about my practical experience. If you have conducted searches and obtained information, please do bring your records and share.

Dinner is £16.50 per head, half price for children. This does not include drinks.
It will be more practical if we collect the money and give it to the restaurant rather than the waiters have to try and keep tabs on payment. Therefore, we will also collect the money from those coming to the evening buffet on registration in the morning.
Again, please bring exact money.

Those who have attended previous meets, please bring your UKHKAN badges with you.

Do bring layers – our hall has a high ceiling and it can be cold and draughty.

Finally, the restaurant function room has a karaoke machine. So, for any pop idols out there, now’s your chance to give a public performance.

Looking forward to seeing you Friday/Saturday.
